WHAT DO I DO TO OBTAIN A PASSPORT WHEN MY DEPARTURE IS IN OVER 3 WEEKS BUT WITHIN 6 WEEKS? |
YOU ARE LEAVING IN BETWEEN 3 1/2 and 4 WEEKS AND YOU DO NOT NEED VISAS |
If you are leaving in between 3.5 and 4 weeks and do not need visas, you may submit your application at your local passport acceptance agency (located at U. S. Post Offices and local government centers) for processing and be assured of your passport before your departure. You will submit the standard passport processing fee to the U.S. Department of State, plus an additional $60.00 rush fee. |
Barring any problems with your application and supplemental documentation, and you have provided a pre-paid express mail or courier return envelope, you will receive your passport within three weeks of submission, and possibly within two weeks. Bear in mind, however, that any problem with your application or supplemental material, such as a birth certificate that does not meet requirements, may significantly delay your application.
|
There are over 8,000 local passport application acceptance facilities located around the U.S. It is likely that there is at least one located in your city or town.
|
If you are leaving within three weeks or less, you should not submit your passport application at an acceptance facility, as your passport may not be returned to you in time for your departure. Further, if you need visas, you may need your passport weeks in advance of your departure.
